A Syrian Mother-of-Pearl and Parquetry-Inlaid Games Table and Armchair, Early 20th Century
The table with lift and swivel top opening to reveal a green velvet playing surface, as well as checkers and backgammon boards.
Dimensions: 32 1/2 in. wide, 16 3/4 in. deep, 31 3/4 in. high, closed (the table); 25 1/2 in. wide, 16 in. deep, 33 1/2 in. high (the chair)
Provenance: The Estate of Dr. Neuman S. Mittel of Boston and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Condition
Each with some minor losses to inlay, with some infill and replacements. Other nicks, marks, scratches and wear. The green velvet surface later.
The chair with restoration to apron, with new screw and old hole visible. Old breaks and repairs to continuous crest rail, with some spindles loose and in need of restoration.
