An English Yewwood Pedestal Desk, Christchurch, Third Quarter 19th Century

The rectangular top having an inset tooled leather writing surface, the central hinged panel opens to a well with pigeon holes and small drawers, above a pair of false frieze drawers, resting on a pair of pedestals each having a bank of three drawers to the rear and a pair of false frieze drawers above a double bank of six drawers to the front case, ending in a plinth a base. One interior drawer stamped twice, "N. VERGE, / Cabinet Maker, / CHRISTCHURCH".

Dimensions: Height 30 3/4in; width 47 3/4in; depth 37in.

Condition

Structurally sound. General marks, wear, nicks, abrasions, surface scratches and small losses throughout. the leather writing panel is in generally good condition, dings, dents, abrasions and small losses. The brasses are replaced, centrally plugged holes to drawer fronts.
