An Assembled Group of American Glazed Redware, 19th Century
Comprising a 4 1/2in lead glazed shaving mug with soap cup insert, purchased at Black Angus, Adamstown, Pennsylvania, 1981; a 2 1/4in manganese glazed bowl with incised foot, purchased 1981; a 3 1/2in manganese glazed porringer with applied strap handle; a 3 1/4in manganese glazed mug with applied strap handle, purchased in Manchester, Vermont, May 22, 1992; a 2 1/2in lead glazed cup, probably Pennsylvania, purchased with Rosemary Jones, New Hope, Pennsylvania, 1982; a 1 3/4in lead glazed open cup with incised rim, possibly New Hampshire, purchased 1993; a 5in diameter manganese glazed lid; and a 3 1/2in diameter manganese glazed lid. Dimensions: Heights range from 2in to 4 1/2in.
Provenance: From a Bucks County Pennsylvania Collection.
Condition
Each in generally good condition overall. Typical glazing and firing flaws from manufacture. Crazing throughout. Most with small chips, roughness and minor flaking to the rims. Some with hand-painted inventory numbers to the underside.
