Johnathan Roy Newton studied at the Ontario College of Art and desihn and received his Fine Arts Diploma. He majored in Classical Realism, with a strong emphasis on the figure. Johnathan apprenticed under Ray Simpson, a portrait painter, in the Old Master Tradition.
Newton has won awards in juried exhibitions even before he graduated from college and has displayed his work in numerous galleries including Trevor Allen Gallery, Nancy Poole Studio, Angel Gallery, Kodiak Gallery, and the OCAD Gallery. He has been commissioned to do portraits, landscapes, figurative work, narrative work, murals, Trompe l'oeil, and his work has been made into limited edition prints. Johnathan has donated paintings to chairty auctions, churches, and the Orangeville Town Hall.
Oil painting has been a passion for Johnathan most of his life, and Paul Pell, Sargent, and Bougereau have had a great influence in his creativity. His lifelong achievement is to strive for ideal beauty through his paintings.
