A Minton Parian ware bisque porcelain figural group: Ariadne on the Panther, John Bell (English, 1812-1895), after a model by Johann Heinrich Dannecker (German, 1758-1841), circa 1868, depicting Ariadne reclining nude on the back of a stylized panther with drapery in her hand raise on a small plinth, impressed to the underside MINTON and with date code for 1868.height 14 1/2in; width 12in; depth 5 1/2in
The surface appears to have an old layer of white paint overall. No observed damages. There is a small flea bite to the underside of the inner foot rim. Typical marks and surface wear.
