A New York Federal Mahogany Secretary Desk, Circa 1815

In two parts. The upper section with molded cornice above a pair of doors having tombstone veneered reserves, enclosing a tiger maple interior fitted with pigeon holes, small drawers and document compartments about a small central prospect door. The lower section having a green baize lined writing slide, over a single short drawer above a kneehole, flanked by short and deep bottle drawers to either side, raised on turned reeded and tapered legs, ending in brass ball caps.

Dimensions: Height 63in; width 32in; depth 13 3/4in.

Provenance: Purchased with HL Chalfont, West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Property from a Bucks County, Pennsylvania Collection.

Condition

Structurally sound. Movement to veneers. Scattered wear, small losses and unstable veneer throughout. There are scattered patched repairs and veneer loss to the surface overall, especially to edges and corners. The green baize inset writing panel with heavy wear and loss. One pull lacking to writing slide. One bottle drawer lacking a brass escutcheon. With key.
