A Philadelphia Chippendale Carved Walnut High Chest of Drawers, 18th Century and Later

The upper section having a pierced broken arch pediment above a stepped cornice with dentil molding, having three over two short drawers over three long graduated drawers, the lower section having a molded waist above one long over three short drawers and scalloped apron, raised on cabriole legs with acanthus carved knees and returns, terminating in ball-and-claw feet to the front and rear.

Dimensions: Height 89 1/2in; width 42 1/4in; depth 23 3/4in.

Provenance: From a Philadelphia Main Line Collection. 

Condition

Structurally sound. The upper and lower section with significant alterations and embellishments. The upper section with an added cornice, pediment and finials. Shrinkage and age cracks to the sides of both sections. The upper section with significant lip molding repair and patches to most of the drawers. The lower section with probable drawer reconfiguration and embellishment to the drawers. Drawer hardware is replaced, secondary holes drilled to several of the drawer fronts.
