A Philadelphia Chippendale mahogany chest of drawers, Thomas Bowen, fourth quarter 18th century, the rectangular thumb molded above two short over three graduated long drawers, flanked by fluted quarter columns, raised on ogee bracket feet, ink inscription to the interior drawer bottom of top right drawer inscribed "Thos. Bowen / Cabinet Maker at / N 20 in Spruce Street / Near the Drawbridge / Philadelphia"Height 37 1/2in; width 41 1/2in; depth 21in; case width 39 1/4in; case depth 20in.
Condition
Tulip poplar secondary woods and full depth dust boards. In an overall good restored condition. Structurally sound. The top with scattered surface scratches and old gouges. The front with one trapezoid shaped patch just above the first long drawer. Front left foot with loss to facing on left side. Brass hardware is in the original holes to drawer faces. Each drawer with original locks. No key.
