A Portrait Miniature of a Child with Finch, First Quarter 19th Century. Watercolor on paper, unsigned. Depicting a young girl with shirt hair and blue eyes wearing a white dress with coral necklace holding a finch in her hand. Inscribed to the reverse of portrait and frame 'Martha Mary Davidson'. Framed in a period rectangular ebonized frame with cast brass hanger.
Dimensions: Sight 3 7/8 x 3in; Frame 6 1/4 x 5 3/8in.
This lot comes from an Upper West Side, New York City collection that will be featured in a short lecture by noted specialist of portrait miniatures, Elle Shushan. Condition
Not examined out of the frame. The portrait appears to be in generally good condition overall, minor foxing to the paper beneath glass. The ebonized frame with craquelure, otherwise typical wear, scuffs and surface scratches throughout. Darkening to cast brass hanger.
