A Portuguese Rococo style carved walnut side chair, late 19th / early 20th century, the shaped foliate scroll carved crest above a vasiform pierced splat and shaped stiles with trapezoid seat raised on cabriole legs joined by shaed flat stretchers, terminating in hairy hoof feet, having a needlework seat decorated with a unicorn and stag.Height 44 3/4in; width 20in; depth of seat 17 1/4in; seat height 18 1/2in.From a Main Line family.
Structurally sound. The chair's frame with general marks, wear, nicks, dings and surface scratches. There is an old break and repair where the splat joins the crest rail. The needlepoint seat with fading and slightly worn appearance. The cushioning would benefit from upholstery.
