A Queen Anne Tall Case Clock, Thomas Gilkes, Charlbury, First Quarter 18th Century in a Later Figured Walnut Case.

The ten-inch square brass dial with silvered chapter ring having Roman hours and Arabic minutes with a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and two arbors to the matte center within cast spandrels, inscribed 'Thos. Gilkes Charlbury ', the twin train movement with five knopped and finned pillars, having an anchor escapement striking on a bell.

The molded and stepped cornice and frieze over a square glazed dial door, flanked by turned barley twist engaged colonettes and rectangular sidelights. The convex molding above a slender rectangular waist with conforming molded door, above a molded box base, ending on turned bun feet.

The walnut veneered case with severe and significant damage and loss from moisture and improper storage over a prolonged period of time; especially to box base. Shrinkage and age cracks. With pendulum. Lacking weights. At the time the condition report was conducted, we did not try run the clock. We cannot guarantee the completeness or functionality of the clock's movement.
