A Massachusetts Federal Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Clock, Simon Willard (American, 1753-1848), Roxbury, First Quarter 19th Century.
The white-painted arched dial with rolling moon phase to the lunette, having Roman hours and Arabic minutes, with a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, inscribed "Warranted by / Simon Willard" all within floral painted spandrels, the twin train eight-day movement striking on a bell.
The pierced fretwork joined by three fluted plinths turned with brass ball-and-spire finials above an arched hood, the dial door flanked by free-standing fluted colonnettes and rectangular side lights, the step and cove molding joining the waist with fluted quarter columns with brass capitals flanking an inlaid rectangular door, above a cove molded and paterae inlaid box base, all supported by bracket feet.

Retaining an old refinished surface. General marks, wear, abrasions and surface scratches and small losses to the case. The hood has both fluted colonnettes with cast capitals (the left side is presently not attached, but retained). The pierced fretwork and fluted plinths with breaks, losses and glued repairs. The dial with craquelure throughout, minor wear and some touch-up to moon phase. Lacking a small brass ring around the left arbor. With two weights, pendulum, winding crank and case key. At the time the condition report what conducted, the clock was maintaining power and striking correctly. We cannot guarantee the completeness and functionality of the clock's movement.
