Two Queen Anne Side Chairs, Mid 18th Century

 

Comprising an American mahogany example with shaped crest, vasiform splat on a trapezoidal seat frame on cabriole legs and pad feet; and an English walnut example with shaped crest, vasiform splat on a trapezoidal seat frame with shell carved legs joined by stretchers on shoe-form feet

 

Dimensions: 22 in. wide, 18 1/2 in. deep, 39 1/2 in. high, seat height 18 in. (the taller); 20 1/4 in. wide, 16 in. deep, 37 3/4 in. high, seat height 17 1/4 in. (the shorter)

Condition

The American mahogany example incised "V" on inside seat rail.  Corner blocks replaced.  Seat frame replaced.  Minor loss to splat near base with one piece reglued.  Other general nicks, marks, and signs of wear.

The English walnut example with repaired breaks throughout.  The top 1 in of seat rail at front with pieced in repair.  Incised "VIIII" on inside of seat rail.  Corner blocks replaced.  Seat frame replaced.
