A Group of Chinese Objects Related to An American Missionary 

A group of 19th century objects related to the American missionary Lyman Burt Peet (1809-1878), comprising: a rice paper book of Chinese geography, a woodblock print of text that describes the Sabbath day in Chinese characters, a pair of red silk pants, a small blue silk shirt, a pair of woven shoes tagged, 'coolie shoes', a porcelain soup spoon, a pair of small shears with silk case and hanging ring, a single embroidered shoe, a small linen apron, a pair of linen stockings, a framed textile panel depicting a house or temple, a peacock pattern embroidered silk panel, a circular silk textile, an embroidered silk panel with repeated bird decoration, a blue silk apron, woodblock prints illustrating Chinese clothing, a rice paper woodblock print global map, a printed page of biblical text, a group of joss sticks, a booklet with religious text in Chinese characters, all within a red pig skin chest with brass lock. 

Lyman Burt Peet (March 1, 1809 - January 11, 1878) was one of the first Congregationalist missionaries to Fuzhou, China.

Dimensions: The chest is 8in x 14in x 6in.
