An American black-painted 'writing arm' Windsor chair, early 19th century, nine bamboo-turned spindle back, cut-out single board writing surface with dovetailed drawer below, D-shaped seat and bamboo-turned legs with center stretcher.height 37in; width 36in; depth 29in.
Structurally sound. Retaining an old dry black-painted surface with gilt highlights, with traces of an earlier green paint beneath the current painted surface. Honest wear throughout. There is a vertical break and patched repair to the left side of the back of crest rail, measuring approximately 2 x 5 1/2in.
