An Oneida County, New York Jacquard Coverlet, New Hartford, Dated 1847

James Cunningham (Scottish/American, born. ca. 1797-1865).

Two color in orange and white, center seamed, decorated with floral motifs to the center and shielded eagles above "UNDER THIS WE PROSPER" to the borders, each of the four corners blocks with General George Washington on horseback, dated 1847, titled 'WASHINGTON' and inscribed "UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL". One end of the coverlet has the client's name beneath each of the corner blocks, 'MARY. F. WOOD', and the other end inscribed "J. CUNNINGHAM / WEAVER. N. HARTFORD / ONEIDA / Co. N. YORK".

Together with a copy of "American Coverlets and their Weavers" (Clarita S. Anderson, 2002).

Dimensions: Dimensions approximately 89 x 70in.

Provenance: Property from a Local Collection.

Condition

Fading and wear throughout. Minor expected fraying to edges. Small losses and minor tears.
