Oil on canvas, an abstract depiction of a reclining figure, ca. 1930s-1940s. Signed and titled "Reclining Figure" verso. Note: Peter Miller, born Henrietta Meyers, studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. in the 1940s, she had two one-person shows at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York, an important venue for surrealist painting at the time. The influence Joan Miro, whom she knew and whose work she collected, as well that of Arthur B. Carles, whom she studied with, is evident in her work. She went on to reside primarily in Chester County, PA and New Mexico, drawing influence from Native American cultures. A monograph on her work, "Peter Miller: Forgotten Woman of American Modernism," written by Francis M. Naumann, was published in 2021.33.5' H x 41.5" W framed, 27" H x 36" W canvas.
