Two girlhood silk on linen needlework alphabet samplers, first half 19th century, comprising an unframed alphabet sampler wrought by Jemima Wescoat, having two large uppercase alphabets, inscribed below "Jemima Wescoat the daught. / of Thomas & Chloe Wescoat / was Born September the 29 / 1802"; a framed alphabet sampler wrought by Catharine Schlater, with rows of alphabet, numbers and initials above four lines of text inscribed "May tenderness my bosom warm / And sorrow flow at others harm / May prudence every act attend / And vertur by my constant friend / Catharine Schlater.", together with a reproduction alphabet sampler bearing the date '1828'.Sizes include 11 x 10in; 12 x 10 3/4in; and 16 x 11in.From a New Jersey Estate.
The two period examples with typical fading, discoloration and small losses. The framed sampler not examined out of the frame. The reproduction sampler is in overall good condition.
