A Western Pennsylvania Federal Inlaid Cherry Tall Case Clock, Circa 1800; Movement Later.
The white-painted arched dial with rolling moon phase, having Roman numerals, with a subsidiary seconds and date dial, inscribed, "WALTHAM", within floral painted spandrels, the twin train eight-day movement striking on a gong.
The broken arch hood with swans neck, centered by a plinth with eagle paterae, above an inlaid tympanum, the dial door flanked by free-standing colonnettes and tombstone side lights, the cove molding above a waist with stop fluted quarter columns flanking a tombstone arched door having line-and-berry inlay overall, above a cove waist molded conforming box base with inlaid six-pointed star, scalloped skirt with inlaid fan, raised on bracket feet.
Dimensions: Height 103 1/4in; width 22 1/4in; depth 12 1/4in.
Condition
The case retaining an old finish. Shrinkage and age cracks throughout. Losses to inlay. There is a gong attached to the inside of the case and fastened by an iron bolt drilled through the side of case. The hood with rebuilding, repairs and later additions to the broken arch and central plinth. Having a later Waltham eight-day movement. With two weights, pendulum, case key and winding crank. We cannot guarantee the completeness or functionality of the clock's movement.
