A French violin of the Derazey school, c.1860, With Two Bows
A French violin of the Derazey school, c.1860, bearing the label: GASPARO DA SALO, IN BRESCIA/ FECIT ANNO ____, and with a repair label below: REPAIRED BY/ CHARLES A VOIGT/ N. E. CORNER 9th & WOOD STS., PHILAD’A/ 10th MO. 5th DAY, 1893, and another partially torn repair label on the neck block, reading: C. OTTO SCHUGENS/ MUSIC STORE & REPAIRING/ Establishment/ 13 E. GENESE___ Buffalo___. The two-piece quarter sawn maple back is of faint narrow curl slightly ascending from the center joint, with decorations proud of the surface below the button, painted onto the center back, and extending from the double purfling at the bottom. The maple ribs are of similar faint narrow to medium curl. The maple head is plain, and the pegbox ends in a carving of a man’s head (supposedly that of violin maker Gasparo Duiffopruggar 1514 – c. 1570). The two-piece spruce table is of fine grain, with doubled purfling. The varnish is a dark orange reddish brown color over an amber gold ground.
Measurements: Length of back: 361mm, Upper bout: 171mm, Center bout: 121mm, Lower bout: 215mm.
An unbranded nickel-silver mounted violin bow. The octagonal stick is of reddish orange brown colored wood with silver winding. The ebony frog has pearl eyes and nickel rings to the sides. The ebony adjuster has two nickel bands. Weight: 59 gm.

Condition
Several old repaired cracks to both the top and back, general wear from use.
