An English Girlhood Silk on Linen Alphabet and Pictorial Needlework Sampler, 19th Century.

Having four rows of alphabets in uppercase, lowercase and script above eight lines of text to the center inscribed,

"For His own name and mercys sake / He healed the broken hearted / And bade the mourning souls partake / The favours he imparted / Till parents to His presence came / With children round Him pressing / Attracted by His wondrous fame / And seeking for His blessing".

Inscribed below, "Florance Elizabeth Clifford finished this work in the 11th year of her age"

Dimensions: Sight 15 3/4 x 16 1/4in; Frame 20 1/2 x 21in.

Provenance: Property from a Philadelphia Main Line Collection.

Condition

Framed and glazed. Not examined out of the frame. Heavy fading throughout, toning, liquid stains and discolorations. Minor repairs and losses. The frame with heavy wear and losses overall.
