Two Western Pennsylvania Salt Glazed Stoneware Canning Jars, Circa 1875. Comprising a cylindrical jar with advertising stencil decoration inscribed, "H. F. BEHRENS / GROCER. / 2217 & 2219 / MARKET STREET / WHEELING, W. VA. / SOUTH BRANCH 3601 / JACOB ST.", and an unmarked jar with semi-rounded rim and hand-brushed decoration. Each with Albany slip interior. (2)
Dimensions: Heights 7in and 8in.
Provenance: Property from a Buck County, Pennsylvania Private Collection.
Condition
Typical wear and discoloration from the kiln overall. Imperfections from manufacture throughout. The cylindrical crock with a full height traveling hairline through o the foot. The jar with brushed decoration is mis-shaped from the kiln; minor flaking and discoloration.
